Normally, seeing two equally gorgeous twins requires a night of heavy drinking and some serious beer goggles. But, with the Bellas – Nikki and her sister Brie – the double vision is the real deal.
A self-admitted "tomboy" with a feminine side, Nikki originally planned to play professional soccer until a leg injury ended her career. From there, she followed her twin sister Brie’s lead into WWE.
Unsuccessful in seizing spots in the 2006 WWE Raw Diva Search, the Bellas caught the eyes of execs and soon landed in FCW. Training for the competition they’d soon crush (while male WWE fans formed crushes on them), Nikki and her sibling made their way onto the main roster in 2008 and turned heads whenever they set foot inside the ring.
But don’t be fooled — Nikki is more than just a (really) pretty face. With a dash of “Twin Magic,” Nikki and her sister stirred up the Divas division, culminating with Brie’s Divas Title reign in 2011. Nikki followed with a Divas Championship victory of her own, defeating Beth Phoenix in April 2012. The cunning femmes fatale made a lasting mark on the Divas division — even if it meant breaking more than just a heart or two — and after a brief sabbatical from the ring, a return in March 2013 proved that the Bellas still have plenty of twin magic in their collective arsenal.
Now, the beautiful pair aims to dominate the reality TV arena in E!’s hit new series “Total Divas.” The success of the reality show raised the ire of Divas Champion AJ Lee, who looks down her nose at her glammed-up cohorts she deems “worthless excuses for women.”
At WWE Battleground and again at WWE Hell in a Cell 2013, Nikki looked on as her sister Brie challenged AJ for the Divas Title on two separate occasions. The scheming of the Divas Champion and her menacing enforcer, Tamina, outpaced the twin sisters' zeal to bring championship gold home to the Bella family. The Bellas got even with the devious titleholder at Survivor Series when they, along with the rest of the “Total Divas” cast, defeated AJ, Tamina, Kaitlyn, Summer Rae, Aksana, Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes in a Traditional Elimination Tag Team Match. The following night on Raw, Nikki scored the winning pinfall over Summer in a Survivor Series rematch, proving once again that the “Total Divas” are more than just pretty faces.
On the March 10 edition of Raw, Nikki & Brie defeated AJ & Tamina in a tag team match when Nikki scored a pinfall on the Divas Champion. Both Bellas competed in the Vickie Guerrero Divas Invitational at WrestleMania 30 for the Divas Championship, but were unsuccessful in dethroning Lee for the title.
Months later at WWE Payback, Brie sacrificed her own WWE career to save her husband, Daniel Bryan, from having to surrender the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Stephanie McMahon. Now, WWE is a Bella short, a startling scenario that continues to leave Nikki vulnerable to unfair stipulations and cruel Handicap Matches, per The Authority. As revealed by Stephanie McMahon on the July 21 edition of Raw, the same night the Bella was placed in a 4-on-1 Handicap Match, the ultimate goal is to force Nikki to quit as a result of these insurmountable odds. However, based on the way she’s handled The Authority’s machinations thus far, there’s just no quit in “Fearless Nikki.”
Supporting her sister as Brie prepares to battle Stephanie McMahon at SummerSlam, Nikki was part of a contract signing for the anticipated bout that came to a shocking conclusion when Stephanie hit both Bella Twins with her husband’s signature Pedigree. At SummerSlam, the surprises continued as Nikki clobbered her sister during her match against Stephanie, which allowed the Billionaire Princess to claim victory.
Even though Nikki is the only Bella Twin currently in WWE, the duo remains proof that two is always better than one.
